Volunteer Role Title: Telephone and Research Assistant
Responsible to: Corinne Phillips, Corporate Partnerships Manager
Time commitment: 1-3 days per week for at least one month
Working hours: Flexible, between 10am- 5.30pm
Expenses: A lunch allowance and reasonable travel expenses will be provided
Background
The Citizenship Foundation is an independent and participation charity that aims to encourage and enable individuals to engage in democratic society.
We focus in developing young people’s citizenship skills, knowledge and understanding by allowing them to take part in different projects and activities.
We reach out to over 4,200 schools and 195,000 young people every year with the support of over 1,600 employee volunteers.
The Giving Nation Challenge
The Giving Nation Challenge is taking place in over 500 secondary schools throughout England. It is designed to give young people the opportunity to take action on a cause or issue they feel passionate about and make a difference to their communities.
Businesses are now being invited to support their local secondary school in the Giving Nation Challenge, a youth social action programme. Employee volunteers are placed into classroom to act as business advisors to support a group of young people in setting up their own social enterprise or charity project that will make a difference to the wider community.
The Giving Nation Challenge will provide businesses with a support package in return for a commitment of at least 6-10 employee volunteers as well as financial sponsorship to form a partnership with their local school/s
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Giving Nation Challenge team is recruiting a part-time volunteer to assist with the project. The selected candidate will be spending time researching suitable companies to approach via telephone to identify the key contact (usually in Corporate Responsibility, Marketing or Human Resources) and send out further information about the programme.
MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use the internet to research suitable companies to be approached.
- Contact selected companies via telephone to promote the Giving Nation Challenge and send out further information about the programme.
- Follow up with selected companies via telephone to find out their interest in the programme.
- Keep contact database up to date (Excel).

Education, training and experience relevant to the post.
(E) GCSE’s or equivalent qualification is required
Skills, abilities and Knowledge

(E) Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
(E) Confident telephone manner
(E) Good IT knowledge (Microsoft office, excel, outlook and internet explorer)
(E) Able to communicate with a range of people
(E) Have good communication skills
(D) interest in working in an office environment
(D) An interest in Corporate Responsibility, fund-raising and/or volunteering.
